PERSONAL STATEMENT


I am committed to helping people meet their challenges and triumphs in ways that enhance their personal enjoyment and satisfaction in life and the quality of their relationships with others. I know from others and my own experience that reflection and awareness can bring about the tools to make changes and that so much the better if this is done within a supportive and caring relationship.

 

I have fifteen years experience as a qualified psychotherapist and over that time have worked in private practice and as the Coordinator of an abuse survivors centre and as the Clinical Manager of a community treatment programme for people who sexually abuse. I have offered training and workshops in the area of sexual abuse on Pitcairn Island and Kiribati and have developed community resources in this area. I was President of the Australia New Zealand Association for the treatment of sexual abuse from 2004 – 2006 and was on the organising committee for the 2004 ANZATSA conference. I have recently become interested in the whole area of human sexualilty and in particular what enables us to have healthy and fullfiling sexual lives. Alongside this I am very attracted to the concepts of ACT therapy which promotes a positive approach to people's problems and seeks to help them live a life they value rather than placing an over-emphasis on the 'problems' themselves. At this stage of life I find myself thinking that the way forward is to bring more compassion, respect, support and fun into our lives.  It is my pleasure to assist my clients to do the same…
